Many of our clients have been patiently waiting for their interviews at the US consulate overseas or with USCIS to be rescheduled following agency closures due to the Covid pandemic. Unfortunately, many of our clients, and other applicants, are still waiting for interviews. However, others have had their interviews scheduled and their cases are moving forward again.
This is where things stand:
- K-1 Interviews at US Consulates: It seems that K-1 interviews at US consulates are not being scheduled at this time. We are disappointed at the lack of forward movement, given the Department of State’s confirmation earlier this fall that posts could give priority to K-1 interviews.
- Immigrant visa interviews at US Consulates: We have recently started seeing immigrant visa interviews being scheduled at US consulates. However, we are not seeing that all consulates are fully reopened yet. We are hopeful that more and more consulates will continue to reopen and schedule interviews.
- Interviews at USCIS: USCIS offices are up and running, after having been closed March through June of this year. We are seeing that cases that were scheduled for interviews that were cancelled when the pandemic hit are now being rescheduled, and more recently filed cases are also being scheduled for interviews.
The Sumner Immigration Law team remains cautiously optimistic about interviews being scheduled. However, we are empathetic towards our clients who have been separated from loved ones indefinitely. We will continue to keep you updated on changes as we move forward.
