USCIS Reminds Eligible Nationals of Haiti to File for Temporary Protected Status
If you are a national of Haiti and are eligible for Temporary Protected Status (TPS), don’t forget to file! You can obtain temporary permission to live and work in the United States. TPS was originally designated for Haiti in January 2010 in response to a catastrophic earthquake that devastated the country.
- If you are filing for TPS for the first time, you may apply through Nov. 15, 2011.
- If you have TPS now but did not file your re-registration application before the Aug. 22, 2011, re-registration deadline, you may still be eligible to file late. There are certain requirements to file late, so be sure to check those requirements before you re-file.
For more information about TPS, including the registration application requirements, fees and procedures, or visit the TPS and TPS Haiti Web pages (http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.eb1d4c2a3e5b9ac89243c6a7543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=e54e60f64f336210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=e54e60f64f336210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD).
