Legal Assistant (Part-Time, In-Office – Richmond, VA)

Hours:
• Approximately 10 hours per week, with a guaranteed minimum of 5 hours per week
• Flexible scheduling, but all work must be performed Monday–Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Eastern


Location Requirement (Non-Negotiable):
This is an in-office role in Richmond, Virginia. The position requires reliable transportation and the ability to travel to and from our office and FedEx locations. Our entire team works remotely; however, this position is fully in-person and requires the ability to work independently without on-site supervision.


Position Overview

We are seeking a highly reliable, detail-oriented Legal Assistant to support critical filing and mail-processing functions for our law firm. This role involves independent, hands-on administrative work and is ideal for someone who is methodical, self-directed, and takes pride in precision.

The core responsibility of this position is to ensure physical case materials are accurately prepared, quality-checked, and securely delivered for filing.


Key Responsibilities

  • Travel to our Richmond office to collect, scan, and securely upload mail
    • Print, organize, quality-check, and package a high volume of case materials for filing with USCIS
    • Perform minor file assembly according to detailed instructions
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of documents prior to packaging
    • Deliver completed filing packages to FedEx for shipment
  • Maintain consistent, clear communication with the team via Google Chat and email, even when working independently
    • Follow established procedures to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance
    • Maintain strict confidentiality and data security at all times
  • Assist with occasional administrative or clerical tasks as needed

This role is heavily detail-driven. Accuracy and consistency are essential.


Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a JD program or pre-law undergraduate program is ideal but not required
  • Ability to work independently and without close supervision
    • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to follow written instructions exactly
    • Strong organizational skills and comfort handling repetitive, precision-based tasks
    • Reliability and punctuality are critical
    • Commitment to confidentiality, security, and professionalism
    • Comfortable handling physical documents and managing deadlines
    • Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel locally
  • Proficiency with technology (Google Workspace, PDF editing, scanning, etc.)
  • Effective communicator, especially in a remote/digital setting (Google Chat, email)
  • Interest in immigration law is a plus
