Numerous immigration attorneys and green card applicants are reporting receiving Requests for Evidence (RFEs), especially from the Texas Service Center, for pending I-485s. It seems the RFEs are requesting proof of continued employment authorization, and sometimes a letter from the applicant’s current employer, among other items.
This uptick in RFEs could be because USCIS anticipates being able to approve the I-485 if and when more immigrant visas become available through re-allocation of visa numbers in the coming months (see this post). In any event, if you do receive an RFE for your I-485, please know that you are not alone. This is a fairly common occurrence right before the application is approved. You of course must answer the RFE before the date indicated in the RFE notice.
